In my small town we have a cooking group, and we meet about once a month to have dinner in each others homes. Since we don’t have a restaurant in town, it’s nice to have a fabulous meal that you don’t have to prepare all by yourself. Our group is a potluck affair and we each bring our recipe instructions as well. We used to print the recipes out for everyone, but now we only print out one copy for the book, and we email the recipes around so that anyone can print them out if they want to (thereby saving trees and being quite green!).
Because I like to entertain large groups, I began collecting large amounts of things. I now have 18 wine glasses (glass), 12 margarita glasses (glass), about 50 dinner plates (china), 20 cloth napkins, 2 sets of silverware, and recently purchased 12 sturdy plastic glasses for outdoor entertaining. So I’m always looking out for the next thing to add to my pantry. In addition, we share all these pieces of equipment around the neighborhood as needed. So all this combines to create a more “green” party experience!
What are you waiting for? Get going! Start entertaining your friends in your own green way. Got an idea I can add to my bag of tricks? Let me know…I’d love to hear from you. — Lisa
Hi Lisa,
My boyfriend and I are getting together with another couple we recently met for a nice Lasagna dinner, and I’m going to make sure we use some cloth napkins π
I would also love to start a cooking group for my area. I moved to San Diego, CA about a year ago, and I am still getting settled and meeting people, so a cooking group is on my agenda π Dinner with friends is a start!
Have a nice weekend π

Hey Angie – I realize San Diego is a big city, and everyone is on the go, but it’s nice to take time out to meet the neighbors. Seems like food brings out the best in folks! Good luck…and way to go on those cloth napkins! (And for leftovers to send home with guests, either get them to bring a dish to carry things home, or simply send your dishware home with them — and that way you get to see them again when they return the dish!)
Hi Lisa,
Love the cooking group idea…that sounds like so much fun! and being “green” is the only way to be. I am going to think more about what I can do in the kitchen to help the environment. I already recycle and if I use plastic, I reuse, but the cloth napkins sounds like a good new idea.
Thanks for the inspiration and ideas. Maybe I’ll start a cooking group soon too.

Hi Angie – Glad you like the ideas! I hope to hear more about your ideas on including “green” in your daily routine. And yes, our local cooking group is a lot of fun (which includes a lot of good food).
