Sunflowers

Stop and enjoy the flowers!

Ok, what’s “green” about sunflowers you ask? Well nothing I suppose; except for their leaves and stems. But these sunflowers I saw along the road in Oregon were so beautiful I just had to snap a photo. And what loves sunflowers? Well, BEES of course! Just wanted to make sure you knew that the two girl bees at BeeModern were still moving forward and exploring new concepts in green design. And we’d really like to hear from you!

Don’t forget to give your trees a drink during the hot summer days. Best thing to do is use a soaker hose for a couple of hours or a half day—depending on how long it takes for the water to reach the root zone. If you’re using gator bags, remember to keep them filled so they can do their work. It makes me sad to see empty gator bags in the summer!

Trees work hard for us—improving quality of life by providing shade, shelter, beauty, and clean air. It’s up to us to protect and care for them.

We bees take pride in our special pollinating abilities! Buzzzzzzzz….

U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated next week, June 21-28 as National Polllinator Week. The designation was approved unanimously by the Senate to bring attention to the importance of our pollinator populations. And it’s not just about bees. Birds, butterflies, bats, beetles and others share the credit. These animals are vital to the health of our ecosystems!

In DC, attend the Congressional Briefing for National Pollinator Week (Downloable Flier) on Thursday, June 24th at 3:00 PM at Longworth Office Building, Rm. 1302A, Washington, DC 20515. It’s open to the public, Members of Congress, Congressional Staff, Agency Personnel, and the press. This event is on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 – 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. and features pollinator treats- ice cream from Häagen-Dazs and lipbalm from Burt’s Bees!
