Upcycling, according to Wikipedia, is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value.” Well that sounds pretty good.  So who is out there doing it? Oregon breweries for one. The Daily Pull wrote a nice little piece on a couple of Oregon breweries that are using this formula for success. And there is more about the “brew beef” process at Oregon Natural Meats. I think it is really smart to use these leftovers in the production process, and now I’m intrigued and want to find out who else in Oregon is upcycling. And if you know of a company, please let us know! We all need to spread the word, and support, companies that are doing the right thing.

I happened to see some beautiful modern furniture today on the web. Even better, it’s made from recycled materials, in this case, scrap wood. The artist, Michael Yonke, upcycles by repurposing materials into objects with higher value. Check out his site, www.upcycler.com to see his Agave Wood Surfboard Table.
